Homos Bring Down Entire College

Apparently, it is the opinion of a portion of alumnae and parents that the reason RMWC has decided to go co-ed is because the "Alternative Lifestyles" were too visible on campus and this drove away prospective students. Homos - we have done it again. We must now bow our heads and accept responsibility for the death of Randolph-Macon Woman's College.

I suppose the claim by these people is that the women of RMWC are not "enlightened" enough to live side by side with people who are different from them. The women of RMWC like homogeny of thought, lifestyle and physical attributes. RMWC women never want to be challenged to learn to live in a diverse society and thrive with people of varying race, religion and sexual orientation. No sir. RMWC women want an army of "mainstream girls" in makeup and dresses, who are exactly like them. Anyone who challenges the system will clearly kill the system.

I suppose RMWC is the ONLY women's college with a visible lesbian community, thus clearly, the ONLY women's college who would be impacted by such.

So, I apologize to all of you out there. I apologize to the far, far, far larger number of alums who like to kiss boys. I'm really sorry that I (we) brought down an entire academic institution and 115 years of history by kissing a girl.

Edited to Add: I did notice that the primary commentary on this subject was not made by an alum, but a father who has apparently spent an unhealthy amount of time on campus. Only one alum who commented even dignified that comment with an acknowledgement...maybe RMWC women aren't as scared of the lesbos as he would make it seem. Maybe - just maybe - RMWC women as a whole are intelligent, strong and can live and learn from a diverse society. Maybe, he underestimates the women of RMWC by projecting his own agenda onto them. Maybe, just maybe, we didn't kill the college after all.

Know that I don't blame you for the death of the college. In fact, I suppose in my own way, I had something to with its demise as well. Yeah for me!
Seriously, though, I remember when I was a tour guide for the college, one of the questions we were trained on was "Are they're a lot of lesbians on campus?" Interestingly enough, I only remember one distinct time when this question actually came up during a tour. And that was only because the mother of the student was a Smith Alum who thought the atmosphere at Smith was "too gay and too liberal."
Let me say that I am glad that I went to RMWC and met incredible women, both gay and straight. Let me also say that I have more contact with friends who were active in RMWC's "visible lesbian community." So, I guess that means that lesbians make better friends than us straight/not really sure girls. And I love you all for it!

i have it on good authority that an alum who is now the director of something special at rmWc (a new position by the way) said the women there now aren't like they were when we were there, she's class of 98, these women are meek and just came here to hide away.

okay, my comment to this is -- they came to the perfect place to become less meek and become leaders. women like this are NOT the leaders at co-ed schools (large or small). the strategic plan stated in black and white print that men hold more leadership positions on campus. the women from rmWc hold masters, md's, jd's, phd's. many of these were once meek women. these women should be celebrated. i think there were many "meek" women in attendance during my time but from the inside we didn't see it that way because we supported each other to become leaders. so piss on those whose don't support our woman's college because they are just doing a disservice to all the quite girls out there. grrrr it makes me insensed.

on a side note, said alum, interviewed, was hired, then taken to lunch to be informed of the possibility of becoming co-ed. this was in august. she's also a traitor in my opinion for not quitting right then and there. apparently money means more than (noun).
